There’s more to know about Canada
Canada is one of the world’s largest countries, but there is a lot non-Canadians and, perhaps, even some Canadians don’t know about us.
Canada is one of the friendliest countries in the world.
Canadians are almost universally polite, and aren’t the least bit hesitant to say, “I’m sorry.” In fact, there’s even a law encouraging them to be apologetic. In 2009, the government passed an Apology Act, making it inadmissible to use an apology against a defendant in court.
There’s more to Canada than English and French.
Many others around the world think Canadians are almost all of French and English ancestry, but that’s not true, and it’s becoming less true every year. Immigration is at one of its highest levels in a century, adding more than 200 languages to the Canadian lexicon. Almost half of the population were born outside of Canada. Although the largest group is from Asia, immigrants come from all over the world. One thing even some Canadians aren’t aware of, almost half of these immigrants have college degrees.
Canada is big, No. 1
Canada has the second largest land mass in the world, behind only Russia. How big is that? Newfoundland, is almost twice as far from Vancouver as it is from London, England.
Canada is big, No. 2
Unlike our neighbors to the south, Canada has six time zones, one of the highest contiguous time zone clusters in the world. But this can also complicate business and personal communications. In Vancouver, you have to get up pretty early to make a morning call to St. John’s.
